The history of Christmas Songs is a long one, perhaps the first classic Christmas record as we know it was Bing Crosby’s ‘White Christmas’. Despite artists the size of Elvis and The Beach Boys amongst others releasing Christmas Albums in the 1960’s and the infamous Phil Spector’s 1963 masterpiece. The classic Christmas single era really began and peaked in the early 1970’s with John Lennon, Slade, Wizard, Greg Lake and Mud amongst others releasing well known Christmas classics.
Some of the biggest selling singles ever ‘Mull of Kintyre’ by Wings and Boney M with ‘Mary’s Boy Child’ followed this before we had Band Aid and Wham in 1984.
This year Kettering Singer/Song Writer and Babywoman Records supremo Charlotte Carpenter is releasing a festive track called ‘Another Year’. The song opens with a twangy style country guitar before Charlotte’s wistful vocals kick in to create a beautifully whimsical lament of a passing of another year and the hopes that a new year will bring.
I’ve been a fan of Chatlotte’s for a few years now and I can easily say this is one of her finest efforts to date and well worth a listen or a download.
‘Another Year’ is released on Babywoman Records on December 13th.
