From the opening bars, it’s hard to tell whether this is being played with a picked guitar, a bass, and a drumkit, or whether they’ve made it sound like it’s coming out of a synthesizer. Either way, this has 80s new romantic vibes all the way through it, while feeling a bit like being hit in the face with a disco ball.
There’s a subtle build up that does a nice job of layering up the instrumentals, without taking too much time over it, and it draws you in. The vocals are varied and excellent with some superb layering that complements the “is it a synth?” effect – this song could well confound expectations when played live.
