‘Solace’ is Vancouver musician Kylie V’s brand-new single, which comes off of their debut album ‘Big Blue’, set to be released on 28th February. It was released at the same time as their other new track, ‘Natural’.
I really enjoy this track, and Kylie has a great voice which is well-suited to the chilled-out, acoustic guitar which fills this song. Lyrically, the track is about struggling with depression and anxiety but finding comfort and support in friends. “I wrote it during a few difficult times over the past year and it ended up being a lot more fun to play than I expected,” Kylie says. It’s a very mature sound and subject matter for someone who is just 17 – I wish I had been that talented at such a young age.
It was also an exercise in adaptation – remotely collecting the group vocals for ‘Solace’ was one of the biggest challenges facing them in the production of the entire album. If this is just one of the tasters of ‘Big Blue’, it’s going to be an album that is not to be missed.
