Cry Baby – Best Of Luck

Cry Baby

Australian artist Cry Baby (aka Bek Winnett) dropped new single ‘Best Of Luck’ on February 12th, just in time to be the perfect antidote for the Valentine blues.

“This song is about that moment when you realise that your mental health and happiness is way more important than the love you feel for someone, so you choose to walk on by and wish them luck,” she says. ‘Best Of Luck’ makes good use of melancholic backing synths and an unconventional drum beat to carry along Bek’s voice. Predictably, it’s a sad one – not least because she got into a relationship with an ex on Valentine’s Day, and still finds the day difficult. However, instead of wallowing, she’s determined to pull the positives out of the situation.

“Girls are conditioned to believe that someone wanting and loving us is the be all and end all, so we tend to lose ourselves in the other person and hang on too long! It can be really hard, but it’s empowering to choose yourself and leave the relationship.”

If, like me, you’re still scrolling through social media and watching everyone’s (let’s be honest, sickeningly) cute posts from last Sunday, wondering why it can’t be you, or trying to move on from someone, this song is a brilliant antidote. It’s the second track from her upcoming EP which is coming up in 2021, and has a concept surrounding a breakup. Containing production by her brother, Judah Winnett and collaborations with AYLA, Christian Patey and Lunar Phase, this is a record to look forward to.
