Poliça – Sea Without Blue/Steady

With an album about to be released Poliça have two singles out as tasters to savour. The electropop synth auteurs from Minneapolis have released the flowing, rhythmically anthemic and enigmatically titled ‘Sea Without Blue’ with its coaxing hookline, roving bassline and immersive instrumentation.

I probably prefer its predecessor ‘Steady’, a ballad that grows in stature with every listen. It is a more conventional song with the crystal beauty of the vocal right at the front of the mix. The winning pop chorus is thoughtfully accentuated by electronic punctuation and some mellow string sounds. The seemingly effortless singing from vocalist Channy Leaneagh guarantees that the reassuring key line ‘…back in the day Momma held me steady…’  can’t fail.
