Shai Brides write pop music trapped inside a disintegrating world of extreme temperatures and ceaseless information, a barrage of bling light on both sides. Drawing comparisons to post-punk and the experimental indie groups of the 1980s such as New Order and Talking Heads, as well as newer alternative acts such as Everything Everything and St Vincent, they bring together whirling psychedelic guitars with glittering synths and blistering drumbeats. Their debut single ‘Joie de Vivre’ was named BBC Introducing West Midlands’ Track of the Month for September 2019 with Alex Noble labelling it “an exception…one of the strongest debuts I’ve heard in my time on this programme”.
2019 has already seen Shai Brides play supporting slots with highly-rated national up-and-comers such as Valeras and Larkins, alongside their debut headline show at The Flapper. With momentum on their side, now’s a good time to start paying attention.
