20 For 20 – Lupa J

20 For 20 is a new feature where I look back at 20 of my favourite things that has happened in the music world in 2020.

On the previous 20 For 20 I listed nine acts who I heard for the first time in 2020 and became a huge fan of. I can now reveal my favourite artist discovery this year is Lupa J.

From the moment I saw Lupa J perform on one of the early Isol-Aid streams I was hooked. Straight away I went to bandcamp and purchased all their releases. Spotify recently released their annual ‘Wrapped’ feature where it shows you who you’ve listened to most during the year. If that had a way of reading all the music you have listened to digitally then Lupa J would be miles in front of everyone else.

Lupa J is the pseudonym of Sydney-based artist Imogen Jones and one of the pluses of this year is that they released a new album just last month that meant even more great atmospheric, heartfelt and melancholic music to listen to. Just how I like it. You can read Jamie Summerfield’s review of the album ‘To Breathe Underwater’ here.

And below enoy a few of their videos.
